题目:Bridging electronic states and electrical property of organic semiconductor

摘要:

 

     Understanding the charge mobility based on electronic states of organic solids has been the most important target for realizing higher performance organic devices.  We will introduce our recent study for a direct connection between electrical conductivity and electronic states in organic semiconductor devices that has been realized at Chiba University.

     Although lots of efforts have been given to understand charge transport in organic devices, many mysteries have still been left. Among these, we select two topics for this talk, (i) direct measurement of the energy band structure and electron-phonon coupling for understanding the charge mobility, and (ii) direct detection of very low density of electronic states in the band gap of organic semiconductors by ultrahigh-precision ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) of ultrahigh precision.   The topic (i) is on a direct experimental study of the band transport and hopping transport mobility in  molecular aggregates  and the topic (iii) is related to study of buried interfaces and unknown or undetectable electronic states in organic band gaps. The topic (ii) is also related to elucidation of a well-known mystery why the transport types, p and n, appear without intentional impurity doping, in other words why Cu-phthalocyanine and pentacene show p-type conduction without intentional doping.  We will introduce selected examples of successful measurements of the intermolecular band structure, the effective mass of transporting hole and HOMO hole-phonon coupling, and our recent challenges on direct detection of very low density-of-gap states that have never been seen.
