Over recent years there has been tremendous progress in developing low-temperature processible organic and hybrid organic-inorganic semiconductors that provide high charge carrier mobilities for both n-type and p-type device operation, good operational stability and other functionalities such as efficient electroluminescene, sensing or memory functions for a variety of applications. We have been interested in particular in understanding the charge transport physics of high mobility conjugated polymers and molecular single crystals and the relationship between molecular structure, solid-state microstructure and charge transport. In this presentation we will present our current understanding of the key factors that govern the transport physics and carrier mobilities of these materials. We will also discuss recent insights into the fundamental charge transport and photophysics of hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites, which have attracted so much interest recently for applications in photovoltaics.
Prof. Henning Sirringhaus, FRS is the Hitachi Professor of Electron Device Physics at the Cavendish Laboratory and works on the charge transport, photo- and device physics of polymer and molecular semiconductors. He is co-founder of the spin-off companies, Plastic Logic/FlexEnable and Eight-19 Ltd, commercializing organic transistor and organic solar cell technology, respectively. Prof. Sirringhaus is a member of the International Advisory Board and has recently accepted a position as Chair Professor at FUNSOM/CNST.
